Parents who bring their children to chiropractors know. The chiropractors themselves know. But the healthcare world may not know – until now. Chiropractic care for young people is extraordinarily safe and effective.
The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association has just compiled a thorough study on this subject which was published in October 2009 in the prestigious biomedical journal Explore: The Journal of Science and Healing.
Here is the review of Chiropractic results that Explore’s readers will learn about:
Parents most commonly brought their children to the chiropractor for “wellness care.” When there was a symptom involved, it was most often muscle conditions; ear, nose, and throat, or respiratory and digestive disorders. After care, both parents and doctors noted a high rate of improvement related to the symptoms being treated, along with improvements in behavior, better sleep and improved immune function.
The report also looked at the incidence of adverse effects resulting from Chiropractic care. Chiropractic proved to be an extremely safe method of treating health problems or for achieving higher levels of wellness.
Out of a set of 577 children and 5,438 visits, there were only three aggravations. Out of another set of 238 children and 1,735 visits, there were only two aggravations. These aggravations were in the form of mild soreness after adjustment and resolved with additional care.
All the children remained under care.
While this is good news indeed, the news becomes remarkable when compared with the results of using drugs or surgery to achieve health. For example, the treatment of respiratory disorders may be medically treated with corticosteroids, bronchodilators or antibiotics, depending on the perceived source of the problem. If a child were given a corticosteroid for a condition that could resolve with Chiropractic care, that child would be unnecessarily exposed to the risks of reduced growth, reduced bone mineral density, suppression of the immune system or adrenal suppression, which could be serious enough to lead to death.
It’s much safer and has a much better result to just take your children to your Chiropractor for treatment!
